Abstract

|
This study was performed to develope culture medium from the extract of Anadara granosa which favored the growth of Shigella flexneri and Salmonella typhi for the detection of the carriers of Shigella and Salmonella. The new medium was tested for the growth of the bacteria and the ability to form bacterial colonies, and compared with other various media.
The following results were obtained
1. The Anadara agar medium were better than Brain Heart Infusion, MacConkey Nutrient and Salmonella-Shigella agar for the isolation of Shigella flexneri and Salmonella typhi.
2. The Anadara agar was the best media to recover Shigella flexneri even with diluted inoculation but the Salmonella-Shigella agar was the worst.
3. The Anadara and the Nutrient agar were the best media to recover Salmonella typhi even with diluted inoculation but the MacConkey agar was worst.
